Wednesday... There are so many different prayers that each of us can pray. There really are.
Do you do something and you really feel ashamed. You wish you could stop but you do it and there comes the shame?
I love the honesty of the Psalms. I don't know what the Psalmist writer of Psalm 119 has done but he is feeling shame. He says in all honesty in verse 39 (NLT), "Help me abandon my shameful ways." And I really believe he meant it.
I love how we can be totally honest with God. There may be a friend or two that we can really be honest with but for sure we can be honest with God, even if we aren't even honest with our self. "Help me abandon my shameful ways."
Starting in verse 35 he writes, "Make me walk along the path of your commands, for that is where my happiness is found. Give me an eagerness for your laws rather than a love for money! Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through your word. Reassure me of your promise, made to those who fear you. Help me to abandon my shameful ways, for your regulations are good. I long to obey your commandments! Renew my life with your goodness."
That is such a good prayer to pray. It may be hard to find the words to say to God. But praying the Psalms has a power to allow our heart to really be honest with God. I love that.
Oh God, "help me abandon my shameful ways" and "renew my life with your goodness." Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
