Wednesday... It shows us how to handle it. I love the Psalms.
Look at this. Psalm 83:1-5 (MSG) says, "God, don't shut me out; don't give me the silent treatment, O God. Your enemies are out there whooping it up, the God-haters are living it up; they're plotting to do your people in, conspiring to rob you out of your precious ones. 'Let's wipe this nation from the face of the earth,' they say, 'scratch Israel's name off the book.' And now they're putting their heads together, making plans to get rid of you."
That's how Asaph starts this Psalm. God is letting him get it all off his chest. I'm sure the Christ followers in the Ukraine are feeling the same thing. I'm sure some of you are facing very difficult impossible situations today and you feel all alone. And it is okay to get it all off your chest. I know that the world is full of people putting their heads together making plans to get rid of God. Just go ahead and vent. But the Psalm doesn't end there. Your frustration, your venting need not end there.
You just need to go to the end of the Psalm. This is what I love about the Psalms. Verses 13-18 show how to take charge. Here is how to take charge. "My God! I've had it with them! Blow them away! Tumbleweeds in the desert waste, charred sticks in the burned-over-ground. Knock the breath right out of them, so they're gasping for breath, 'God,' Bring them to the end of their rope, and leave them there dangling, helpless. Then they'll learn your name: 'God,' the one and only High God on earth."
Go ahead and lament but then take charge. They may think they can get rid of God but they can't. "My God! I've had it with them! Blow them away." Verse 18 in the NLT says, "Then they will learn that you alone are called the Lord, that you alone are the Most High, supreme over all the earth." And no matter what you are facing that is the truth. That is who your God is. He alone is the Most High, and He alone is supreme over all the earth. Just take hold of that! Just believe that!
By the way, I've just started reading the last book of the Bible, Revelation. It doesn't end well for them. But it does for us. He is in charge, and always will be! Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
