Monday... What do you want? Now that is a good question to ask here at the beginning of a new day, a new work week, isn't it?
I do that with my family every year heading into their birthdays and Christmas. I ask them to make a list of what they want. And that is what God did with Solomon the son of David in 2 Chronicles 1:1 (NLT) as he "took firm control of his kingdom."
Verse 7 says, "That night God appeared to Solomon and said, "What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!"
Now that would be a great question for God to come to us and ask at the beginning of another work week, "What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!" And I think that God is asking that of us, "What do you want?"
I also think God already knew what Solomon's answer would be but He still asked him. It was very important for Solomon to come to grips with his answer as it is with us.
Verse 8 - 10 (AMP), "Then Solomon said to God, 'You have shown great lovingkindness and mercy to my father David, and have made me king in his place. Now, O Lord God, Your promise to my father David is fulfilled, for You have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth. Give me wisdom and knowledge, so that I may go out and come in [performing my duties] before this people, for [otherwise] who can rule and administer justice to this great people of Yours?'" And the same could be said of each of us in the tasks that God has given us to do this week. But what do we ask God to give us?
Verses 11 & 12 (MSG), "God answered Solomon. 'This is what has come out of your heart; You didn't grasp for money, wealth, fame, and the doom of your enemies, you didn't even ask for a long life. You asked for wisdom and knowledge so you could govern well my people over whom I've made you king. Because of this, you get what you asked for - wisdom and knowledge. And I'm presenting you the rest as a bonus - money, wealth, and fame beyond anything the kings before or after you had or will have.'"
God knew Solomon's heart before He asked and He knows our heart before He asks us what we want. Our heart controls our wants. And is it what God wants? And wanting what God wants goes a long way in what we get. That is such a good question here at the beginning of a new work week, isn't it? Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
