Friday... I'm overwhelmed, so what do I do? Good question!
David was in a cave with someone outside wanting to kill him and in this cave he wrote Psalm 142 (NLT) and this is what he did, "I cry out to the Lord;" And that is a great place to start. "I plead for the Lord's mercy." I need help. I don't feel I deserve it but I need your mercy.
Verse 2, "I pour out my complaints before him" He allows me to do that. I unload them on Him. "and tell Him all my troubles." And He wants me to do that. He wants to take care of those trouble.
So David cried out, he pleaded, he poured out, and He told Him. He just let it all out. What if we did that? Maybe that is what you need to do? Is it? He let David do it so I'm sure He wants you to do it.
Now here is reality. Verse 3 says, When I am overwhelmed, you alone know the way I should turn." Are you overwhelmed? Are you in an emotional cave hiding out? Do you feel all alone?
In verse 4, David says, "I look for someone to come and help me, but no one gives me a thought! No one will help me; no one cares a bit what happens to me." Do you feel that way? Are you in deep despair? Are you?
Verse 5, "Then I pray to you, O Lord. I say, 'You are all I really want in life. Hear my cry, for I am low."
The Message puts it this way, verses 3-7, "As I sink in despair, my spirit ebbing away, you know how I'm feeling, know the danger I'm in, the traps hidden in my path. Look right, look left - there's not a soul who cares what happens! I'm up against it with no exit - bereft, left alone. I cry out, God, call out:'"You're my last chance, my only hope for life!"' Oh listen, please listen; I've never been this low. Rescue me from those who are hunting me down; I'm no match for them. Get me out of this dungeon so I can thank you in public. Your people will form a circle around me and you'll bring me showers of blessing."
And that is what he did. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
