Tuesday... Details, details, God is a God of details.
Now the book of Leviticus in the OT is a book of details. In the beginning it tells how to prepare and how to present and why and how to give offerings to God by the children of Israel.
Here is how it starts, Chapter 1 verse 1 (NLT), "The Lord called to Moses from the Tabernacle and said to him, 'Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. When you present an animal as an offering to the Lord, you may take it from your herd of cattle or your flock of sheep and goats.' " And then he goes into greater details.
This lets us know what God is like and how he set out to bring us back to him. When we drive a car we don't really like to know all the details of what makes it work and how it was made but without the details the car wouldn't run.
We need to know what is important to God. As we have headed out of the time of the Law into the time of Grace we need to still really know what is important to God. We need to see why he sent his Son to die for us and what it really means. We need to see what he thinks of sin and that is where the offerings in the time of the Law came in and then why Jesus came to become the ultimate offering, the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. God is serious about sin.
He says over in Leviticus 4:1-2 (NLT) "Then the Lord said to Moses, 'Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. This is how you are to deal with those who sin unintentionally by doing anything that violates one of the Lord's commands.' "
What this says is that he is very serious about sin and it needs to be dealt with and he has set up a plan to deal with it through Jesus death and sacrifice. Just because we don't need to do all the rituals of Leviticus we must still do something. 1 John 1:9 says, "But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness." He then says in verse 10, "If we claim we have not sinned, we are showing that his word has no place in our hearts."
He is serious about this and he has made a way for us to take care of it. If we confess he will forgive. We must not miss this detail. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
