Zechariah 2:13 (NLT), "Be silent before the Lord, all humanity, for he is springing into action from his holy dwelling."
Tuesday... What are we feeling today?
There are so many emotions that we can feel today as we search for encouragement in this day in which we live.
The writer of Psalm 74 in verse 1 (NLT) has a feeling. He says, "O God, why have you rejected us so long? Why is your anger so intense against the sheep of your parture." And that is an emotion that we could feel as we see LA burning or whatever we are going through. But I like what Zechariah says in 2:13, "Be silent before the Lord, all humanity, for he is springing into action from his holy dwelling." And that is such an important thing for us to do. Sometimes we just need to be silent.
I'm coming down in Genesis to the end of the story of Joseph. It is such a great story. It is a story of how God was at work when it seemed that he didn't care. I find that I need to be reminded in the Bible everyday of how God works and that he hasn't rejected us, his followers, especially in difficult times. Psalm 74:12 says, "You, O God, are my king from ages past, bringing salvation to the earth." And he says in verse 26, "Remember your covenant promises, for the land is full of darkness and violence." God doesn't need to remember, we do!
And then back to Zechariah 2:10, "The Lord says, 'Shout and rejoice, O beautiful Jerusalem, for I am coming to live among you.'"
I have just finished the book of Revelation, the last book of the NT and the Bible and usually I go back and start reading the first book of the NT which starts with the story of the birth of Jesus but I decided to go back to the last two books of the OT. There is a long space of time between the OT and the NT that God was silent and I wanted to see how he was preparing his people for what was coming. Zechariah is the next to last book of the OT and here he is preparing the people for what was to come. Verse 10 says, "The Lord says, 'Shout and rejoice, O beautiful Jerusalem, for I am coming to live among you.'" Yes God did come through his Son, Jesus.
And we need to be reminded that God is in control. He is at work and he cares, he really does. He isn't silent, it's just that we do not take the time to read the Bible and what he has said and where he reminds us that we need to shout and rejoice that he has come and will come.
So how are we feeling today? Remember, "Be silent before the Lord, all humanity, for he is springing into action from his holy dwelling." He knows and he can be trusted. Yes, yes! #todaysbeginning
